Position Summary: 

The Controller guides financial decisions by establishing, and monitoring policies and procedures. They protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. They monitor and confirm the organization’s financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to an external accountant.


Education/Certifications/Skills Requirements

  1. The Controller should have:

  2. Strong interpersonal skills: specifically verbal and written skills, telephone skills, and active listening.

  3. The drive to build Client loyalty and trust through transparency and vulnerability, by using the philosophies in the book Getting Naked by Patrick Lencioni.

  4. Extensive experience working with QuickBooks, Excel, or similar accounting/bookkeeping software.

  5. The ability to maintain confidentiality and the ethical standards of a CPA.

  6. A demonstrated history of credibility and a clean financial history.

  7. Conscientiousness about meeting deadlines with the highest quality work.

  8. The ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order of multiple projects.

  9. The knowledge and ability to handle payroll for a multi-state organization.

  10. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent experience.

  11. 5+ years experience in the accounting and/or finance sector

  12. 3+ years in a position equivalent to, or higher than, a controller.


Ongoing Education requirements

 The Controller will pursue continuous personal and professional growth through:

  1. Seminars, webinars, classes and/or conferences related to the position which meet CPE requirements or deepen understanding of the position.

  2. Trade-related books, magazines, emails, newsletters, and websites to stay current on the latest legal and compliance practices.

  3. Leadership development courses.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Controller will be responsible to:

  1. Coordinate the annual & quarterly budget process.

  2. Prepare workpapers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances.

  3. Review monthly accounting close processes including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.

  4. Prepare monthly financial statements and related footnotes.

  5. Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances.

  6. Prepare monthly reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions.

  7. Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective internal controls.

  8. Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

  9. Be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

  10. Supervise all accounts payable and receivable and GL entries processed in corporate office

  11. Prepare bi-weekly payroll and monthly commission payments.

  12. Maintain fixed asset records

  13. Report monthly sales tax.

  14. Process Expense checks.

  15. Process Accounts Payable checks.

  16. Review and record journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity.
